New device · launched 3 September 2026
The company best known for smart locks and curtain robots has just entered the wearable-memory category. The AI MindClip is 16.8 grams, records for over twenty hours, holds 64GB on the device itself, and costs $119.99 — undercutting both Omi and Plaud. There is one thing you should understand before you order one.
At a glance
The thing worth knowing
The 64GB of onboard storage is genuinely the most interesting hardware decision anyone has made in this category this year. Most of these devices are a microphone with a radio — what you say leaves your body almost immediately. The MindClip actually keeps the day on the clip and offloads it when you put it on charge. That is a real architectural difference, and it is the right instinct.
But the intelligence is somewhere else. The Ask AI feature is powered by Qwen and runs on Alibaba Cloud, using a retrieval-augmented setup with ADBSQL as the retrieval database. SwitchBot also credits ChatGPT, Gemini and other large models in the wider product.
So the honest summary is this: your recording may begin on the device, but your questions — and the context needed to answer them — are processed on servers in a different legal jurisdiction from most people reading this page. That is a statement of fact, not an accusation. Alibaba Cloud is a large and competent provider. But it is a different answer to “where does my day go?” than most buyers will assume from the phrase 64GB local storage, and you should decide about it deliberately rather than discover it later.
Can the MindClip be used purely as a local recorder — capture and offload, no cloud processing — and still be useful? If yes, it becomes genuinely interesting for private households. If the answer is no, then the 64GB is a buffer rather than a promise.

If you're at the show and you handle one, we'd genuinely like to hear what it's like — particularly whether the local-only question above has a good answer. Text us.
Against the field
At $119.99 it undercuts both Omi and Plaud at $179, while sitting above Bee at $49.99. On battery it beats everything except Bee — twenty hours against Omi's single day. On storage it beats all of them, because none of the others put 64GB on the device.
For someone losing a Limitless Pendant in December, it fixes the two complaints Pendant owners actually have: it lasts longer, and the recording lives somewhere you can point at. If you want a like-for-like replacement and you are relaxed about the cloud question, it is a serious candidate and it is the newest thing available.
What it does not fix is the reason you were stranded in the first place. It is closed. There is no published code, no self-hosting, and no route for anybody else to keep your record alive if SwitchBot loses interest or gets bought. Humane was bought and killed in days. Limitless was bought and put on a timer. Bee was absorbed into Amazon. A better product on the same structural bet is still the same bet.
We build the Keeper on open hardware, so we are not neutral and you should weigh that. But the test we apply is simple and we'd apply it to ourselves: if this company disappeared tomorrow, would the person wearing this still have their memories? For the MindClip, as announced, the answer is no. That doesn't make it a bad product. It makes it a product you should only buy with your eyes open.
Where this came from
Written from the announcement and launch-day coverage on 4 September 2026. We have not handled the device, and nothing here is a review — when somebody has lived with one for a month, that will be worth more than all of it. We'll update this page as real reports arrive.
Wondering whether to wait
If you own a Limitless Pendant, don't rush — you have until December, and your existing hardware can be rescued for nothing.
