What it does

  • Record over 20 hours continuously on one charge
  • Store 64GB locally on the device itself, not only in a cloud
  • Offload and organise recordings automatically while charging
  • Sort your day into Timeline, Priority, Daily Memory, Weekly Summary and To-Do Overview
  • Turn spoken promises and ideas into categorised to-dos

What it doesn’t

  • Publish any source code, or allow self-hosting
  • Keep the clever part local — Ask AI runs on Alibaba Cloud
  • Adopt a Limitless Pendant or import Limitless history
  • Give you more than 300 free transcription minutes a month
  • Have any track record yet — it is days old

Is it open source?

No

Closed. SwitchBot is a mainstream smart-home company — locks, curtain robots, sensors — and this is its first move into wearable memory. The interesting wrinkle is the 64GB of onboard storage, which means the recording genuinely lives on the device rather than streaming straight to somebody’s server. That is a real architectural difference from most of this field. What is not local is the thinking: the Ask AI feature is powered by Qwen on Alibaba Cloud, using a RAG setup with ADBSQL as the retrieval database. So your audio may start on the clip, but your questions and the context to answer them go to a cloud in a different legal jurisdiction from most readers of this page. That is a fact rather than an accusation, and it is one you should decide about deliberately.

Against the Limitless Pendant

How it compares to the one you’re losing.

On paper it beats the Limitless Pendant on the two things Pendant owners complain about: it runs 20-plus hours rather than a day, and it holds 64GB on the clip itself. It is also $60 cheaper than an Omi. If you want a straight like-for-like replacement and you are relaxed about where the processing happens, it is a serious option and the newest one available. What it does not solve is the problem that stranded you: it is closed, there is no published code, and if SwitchBot loses interest or is acquired there is no route for anyone else to keep your record alive. It is a better product bet and the same structural bet.

Who it’s for

People who want long battery, local storage and a low price, and who are comfortable with the AI side running on Alibaba Cloud.

Not for: Anyone whose objection to Limitless was that a company owned the record — and anyone who needs to be certain which jurisdiction their conversations are processed in.

Not sure this is the right one

We’ll tell you honestly, even when it isn’t us.
