When does the Limitless Pendant stop working?

Support ends 31 December 2026. Limitless committed to supporting existing owners throughout 2026, and Meta — which acquired the company — has published no firmer date since.

Plan for the service to stop at the end of the year and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn’t. Do not leave anything important to the final fortnight.

What happened to Limitless?

Meta acquired it on 5 December 2025. Pendant sales stopped that day.

Desktop and web capture were switched off on 19 December 2025, and the companion product Rewind was shut down outright the same day. Existing owners were moved onto the paid Unlimited plan free of charge until support ends.

Can I still export my Limitless data?

Yes — and do it today rather than in December. Request a text-only export from app.limitless.ai/data-exports.

Text-only produces a smaller file that imports cleanly elsewhere. Request audio separately, and hand-save the handful of conversations you would genuinely grieve, because audio does not transfer to other services.

This is the one step that cannot be undone. Everything else on this page can be retried.

Does my Pendant become useless?

No. It can be rescued. Factory-reset it and pair it with the open-source Omi app, and it keeps recording after Limitless ends.

Omi confirmed this to us on 3 September 2026: once paired, the pendant runs over Bluetooth through Omi’s own integration, with audio processed by Omi’s cloud, and does not rely on Limitless’s servers.

They were careful about the limit of that claim, which we think is to their credit: they can speak fully for Omi’s side, but cannot inspect Limitless’s device firmware. So the accurate phrasing — theirs, and now ours — is that a converted pendant works through Omi independently of Limitless’s servers, rather than an absolute guarantee about firmware internals.

Will my old transcripts transfer?

The text will. The audio will not. Export as text-only, then in the Omi app go to Profile → Import Data and select the ZIP.

Omi has published no timeline for audio import, so do not count on it arriving. Save any recordings you want to keep before the service ends.

What replaces the Limitless Pendant?

Omi, if you want to keep the hardware you own. It is the only device that adopts the Pendant and imports your existing transcripts, and the only fully open-source one.

The honest alternatives: Plaud NotePin S ($179) is more polished if your recordings are work rather than a life record. Bee ($49.99) is the cheapest with about a week of battery, but Amazon owns it. SwitchBot AI MindClip ($119.99, launched September 2026) has 64GB on the device, though its AI runs on Alibaba Cloud.

Is the Limitless Pendant open source?

No. Meta has not released the firmware, schematics or server software, and has made no commitment to do so.

Owners have organised a petition asking Meta to open-source the firmware. It is a reasonable request and a long shot; plan as though the answer is no.

Separately, some owners have flashed Omi’s open firmware onto the pendant themselves — reported by the San Francisco Standard in December 2025. That route is unofficial, unsupported and risky, and we neither recommend it nor publish instructions for it.

I live in the UK or the EU. What about me?

Your service already ended on 19 December 2025, along with Brazil, China, Israel, South Korea and Turkey. Accounts and stored data were deleted after that date.

There is nothing left to export, so skip that step entirely. The hardware itself can still be rescued by pairing it with the Omi app, and that is the only part of this page that still applies to you.

Should I buy a Limitless Pendant now?

You cannot — sales stopped on 5 December 2025 and no new hardware is planned.

If you are offered one second-hand, know that the service ends on 31 December 2026. The hardware can be moved onto the open-source Omi app afterwards, so it is not worthless, but buy it as a pendant to convert rather than as a working Limitless device.

Is Limitless refunding subscriptions?

No refunds — owners were moved onto the paid plan free instead. There is no subscription left to cancel or reclaim.

If you are somehow still being billed, that is worth querying with them directly while there is someone to ask.

How long does it take to move off Limitless?

About ninety minutes, and most of that is waiting for the export to be prepared.

Pairing the pendant with Omi takes a few minutes. Importing your history takes a few more. The export is the slow part, and it is the part with the deadline.

What is the single most important thing to do before 31 December?

Export your history as text. From app.limitless.ai/data-exports, today.

Everything else can be redone or postponed. Once the service ends the record cannot be re-created, and no support desk will be able to retrieve it for you.
